Cable Airshow 2014
B-25 Mitchell
This is the North
American B-25 Mitchell. Made famous by the Doolittle Tokyo
Raid, the Mitchell is the only aircraft made before or since
that was named for an individual. William "Billy" Mitchell was
a very vocal advocate for air power. He was also an innovator
of air tactics. Pacific Princess was flown for many years as
an air tanker before going into the movie industry in 1968.
This is another of the "Catch-22" aircraft that has also been
featured in other movies, including the movie Pearl Harbor,
where it flew off the carrier USS Constellation as "Whirling
Dervish".
