The Wings Over
Camarillo airshow was on August 17 and 18, 2019. Due to other
commitments, I was only there on Sunday the 18th for the show.
It was a nice mix of Warbirds, home-built and general aviation
aircraft. The Southern California Wing of the Commemorative
Air Force is based in Camarillo and they have an outstanding
collection of flying warbirds. The Planes of Fame Museum in
Chino California brought some of their Warbirds as well.
Aerobatic performances by Vicky Benzing, Sammy Mason and Judy
Phelps wowed the vrowds with their aerial performances. Jusyd
Phelps and Sammy Mason are local performers based at Santa
Paula Airport. Sammy Mason is a current Red Bull Air Race
pilot and it has been quite something to watch his
performances get better and better.
This is a nice local show. Highlights
for me are always Warbirds and the CAF SoCal Wing's PBJ is a
treat to see fly after watching the restoration take place
over the years. The Lockheed 12A was a cool addition and this
was the first time I have seen a Champion 402 Lancer. The
afternoon program at Camarillo is a nice mix of aircraft from
different eras and different styles of flying.
