The Seversky P-35
Guardsman was an early fighter for the USAAC. Initially delivered to
the 1st Pursuit Group at Selfridge Michigan, the Guardsman was obsolete
by the time it arrived in active service. The pilots appreciated the
airplanes ruggedness, although the P-35 did not have self sealing fuel
tanks nor did it have armor. The aircraft was also underpowered.
Several versions were sold as export versions. P-35s also fought in the
battle for the Phillipines in 1941. This P-35 is actually the two-seat
version that was originally allocated to Sweden. In US service, it
would have been an AT-12 Advanced Trainer.
