The
Yak-3U was a Yak-3 fitted with a radial engine to try and overcome the
overheating problems that the inline engines were experiencing. The
prototype was fitted with an 1,800 hp radial engine. While the
prototype performed well and seemed to not experience overheating
problems, the war ended before it could enter production. This Yak-3U
is a replica and it fitted with a Pratt and Whitney R-2000 series
radial engine.
