J2F Duck

The Grumman J2F Duck first flew in 1936. It was used by every branch of US Military service during WWII, continuing service after the end of the war. It mainly carried out search and rescue operations in addition to utility duties. It was also used for mapping, scouting/observation, anti-submarine patrols, photographic surveys, reconnaissance and target tug duties. It normally carried a crew of two in the cockpit with a cabin below that could accomodate either two passengers or a stretcher. The USAF operated the J2F as the OA-12. Like other early Grumman aircraft, the landing gear wheels were operated with a hand crank in the cockpit.
