TDon
Luscomb started Luscombe Aircraft in 1937. Their motto was "No wood, no
nails, no glue". The all-mteal fuselage was joined to fabric covered
wings that were constructed of an aluminum framework. This saved weight
and made the aircraft quicker and easier to manufacture. The Luscombe
50 (model 8) would become the most famous design for the company. The
aircraft was used by the military for it's Civilan Pilot Training
Program during WWII.
There are 3 Luscombe 8s
featured below, a 1946 8A (N45488) and a second of the same model
(N77950) going through it's annual inspection. You can see the cockpit
instrumentation and the Continental engine in the second series.
