A-10 Thunderbolt II/Warthog

The A-10 Thunderbolt II is also affectionately known as the "Warthog". For close-in ground support, there is nothing in the US inventory that even comes close. The low speed and tremendous armor, coupled with the 30mm gatling gun make this aircraft one mean machine. There are many stories and pictures of these aircraft being chewed up by ground fire and flak, yet returning their pilots safely home. I have personally witnessed what these aircraft do to tanks, and it is deadly. This one is part of the 355th Fighter Wing based at Davis Monthan AFB, in Arizona. The 355th has a colorful history dating back to WWII with the P-47 Thunderbolt.
