The annual Blue and Grey
Civil War Encampment and Battles took place on November 12-13 at the
Underwood Farms in Moorpark California. It is hosted every year by the
Moorpark Rotary Club and has become one of the largest reenactments
west of the Mississippi. Heavy rains on Friday night swamped the
battlefield with 2 inches of rain, making it a sticky mess of mud. The
main battles had to be cancelled on Saturday due to the unsafe
conditions for the reenactors. The encampments and mercantiles were
open and the rain hadn't dampened the spirit. The organizers and
reenactors were wtill able to stage two skirmishes between the Unions
and Confederates that did a great job saving the event.
