Steam Shovel, Mono Basin Historical Museum

Driving north on the 395 between Mammoth Lakes and Bridgeport, a small town called Lee Vining is just north of the turnoff for the Tioga Pass. We stopped at the Mono Basin Historical Museum for a look. It has some interesting artifacts and history in a tiny building that used to be a one room school house. Outside, there are many machines from a bygone era, including this steam shovel. Quite an intricate piece of mechanics, and an interesting photographic subject!
