Pima Air and Space Museum
Cargo aircraft
There are a lot of
interesting cargo aircraft at the museum. Not as romantic or
sexy as the fighters and bmbers, but when you need to get
parts, troops, supplies, ammo, etc somewhere, these aircraft
are the workhorses that get the job done.
Lockheed Model 10 Electra. The Electra
was the first aircraft that Kelly Johnson worked on at
Lockheed. The Electra is best known as the aircraft flown by
Amelia Earhart when she
was last seen.

County AFB, Ohio.

the Beech 18.

To me, this was the greatest airplane ever built.

Squadron at Townsville, Australia with a Stearman and an F4U
Corsair in the background.
Fairchild C-123K Provider used by CalFire

fight fires in the western US until the 1990s.

front.

A pair of Boeing C-97 Stratofreighters. These designs were
based on the B-29. There were also KC-97 tankers. This
versatile aircraft provided the basis for the Super Guppy
transports.

Aero Spacelines 377-SG Super Guppy was used by NASA until 1991
to carry rocket segments and other very large cargo. It was
built from parts of retired C-97 transports and 377 airliners
as well as the wings of a YC-97J, the USAF experiment C-97
with turbo-props.
