The Rockwell B-1 Lancer was a project
cancelled by Jimmy Carter in 1977, and re-instated by Ronald Reagan in
1980. For a large airplane, it is pretty nimble. During the show, on
one pass, the pilot made a high speed flypast, pulled up and rolled the
airplane. You could hear the crowd yelling out a variety of excited
calls when the pilot rolled. The B-1 on static display had quite a bit
of custom work on it and it was obvious the aircraft has been used in
extensive testing of systems. There even was an externally mounted FLIR
pod installed. We all got a kick out of the bald, thread bare tires!
