Lockheed U-2/ER-2 Dragon Lady
The
Lockheed U-2 spy plane has gone through number of changes throughout
it's operational lifetime. What makes it unique is that it flies to a
high altitude, then the engines are switched off so that it glides
silently over the target. The black plane is a standard U-2 with the
Camaro chase plane that watches the pogos on takeoff and picks them up
after the plane leaves the ground. The Pogos are the wheels attached to
the outer wings during takeoff as the U-2 only has landing gear on the
centerline of the aircraft. The white aircraft is the NASA testbed for
high altitude research.
