Camarillo Airport, February 2008
Maintainers and Magicians

The amount of time and effort that goes into vintage warbirds to make them flyable and keep them flyable is unbelievable. Volunteers at the Commemorative Air Force's Southern California Wing put in thousand of hours of work keeping these vintage aircraft flying. I call them maintainers and magicians. The reason for the magicians moniker is fitting. To see a pile of parts, or a crumpled old aircraft, or a plane that just looks like it is ready for the scrap heap transition from that state to a noble, flyable warbird is truly magic. They truly perform yeoman's work, week after week, on a volunteer basis, sharing a common bond, aviation. They share a common goal, to get the aircraft in the sky again. The dedication and perseverance of these folks is something that needs to be seen.

The inside of the maintenance hangar looks like chaos, but it is well organized to the folks who work in there.
