August 20-21, 2011- Wings Over Camarillo
A6M3 Zero
There were two Zeros at
the show this year. One, that is based with the CAF SoCal Wing and
another previously unknown Zero that is on it's way to an air museum in
Alaska. According to the folks at the CAF, the second Zero is the
sister ship of the CAF Zero. They were both recovered from Babo Island
Airfield in the 1980s, shipped to Russia for restoration and have made
their way to the US. Both of these aircraft have the Pratt and Whitney
1830 engine, which was the basis for the Sakae engine. The Zero with
the white border around the red circle and the tail code X-133 is the
CAF Zero.
