May 1-3, 2009 Gathering Of Mentors
Friday flight to Palm Springs
Last
year, I drove to Palm Springs for the Gathering. This year, I flew down
with Marc Russell and spent the weekend at Palm Springs for the annual
West Coast Gathering of Mentors. Marc and I met up at Camarillo
Airport. He put me to work installing a rub strip on the belly of the
airplane while he filled up the smoke oil tank. Once we got that done,
we went to the gas pumps, filled up and took off toward Fox Field to
meet up with Ron Alldredge and his wife Paula for lunch before taking
off together for the flight to Palm Springs. This gave me a good
opportunity to shake out the rust a bit. I hadn't done any air-to-air
photography since December and I had made some setting changes to my
camera. We caught some wind and rain in the Banning Pass, but the trip
was a nice trip down.

An Argosy and a KC-97 at the end of
the field. We also spotted a C-119 and a B-25.
