May 7-9, 2010- Palm Springs Gathering of Mentors
Saturday Morning Flying
Saturday morning dawned
with clear skies and calm winds. It looked like it would be a great day
for flying. We met up at the hotel breakfast bar for breakfast at 7,
then headed to the Palm Springs Air Museum for a formation procedures
meeting and to brief the first flight of the morning. We all took off
as a group before heading separate directions in flights of 3 to 4
aircraft. I flew in the back of Marc Russell's T-34 in the lead with
David Easton, Darren Moore and Brett Austin in the formation. We flew
to Thermal Airport for gas first. Once we filled the tanks, we flew
around the area doing formation breaks and rejoins and different
formation configurations. We then headed back to Palm Springs,
performing a few fly bys for the museum visitors and staff.
